Our November Weekend
What's up for the the weekend
Now that Halloween is over we can get back to our regularly scheduled fall weekends – turtlenecks, apple picking and trying to get that perfect photo of a red and orange tree. The sheer beauty of the foliage in Westchester this month has been mind blowing. It happens year after year but never ceases to amaze me. We might be heading to the other side of “peak” today, but I want to share a few spots we’ve been to lately, plus what we’re…falling back on for the weekend.
Where we are going this weekend:
Taste of the Rivertowns
Saturday November 5
The Rivertown Public Market and The Rivertowns Chamber of Commerce are joining forces to bring you the first ever (!) restaurant crawl through Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson, and Irvington. Enjoy an afternoon of destination-worthy tastes as you stroll our local streets on what promises to be an epic food tour. A trolley can take you from village to village, from bite to bite, if you don’t feel like driving. Get your tickets here
RiverArts Studio Tour
Saturday, November 5th and Sunday, November 6th
Another crawl, this time ART. This two-day visual arts Studio Tour features more than 80 of our community’s visual artists in Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings, Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. More information here
The Social Fabric - An ArtsWestchester Exhibition
on view till January 2023, White Plains
This newest exhibition from ArtsWestchester features recent contemporary works and site-responsive commissions by artists who use textiles to explore issues of social consequence. It's been on our bucket list since it opened, and runs though January so we won’t stress if we don’t make it there this weekend due to food coma from the Taste of Rivertowns. More information here
Where we’ve been:
David Rockefeller Pocantico Center, Sleepy Hollow
The new center on the much-beloved Rockefeller Estate is “a sustainable and inclusive home for the creative process where artists and the community come together to develop, present, and experience new works of performing, literary, and visual arts.” The center is on the beautiful grounds of Kykuit in Rockefeller's recently renovated greenhouse. Highly recommend a visit. More info here
Teatown Lake Reservation, Ossining
An awesome place to walk with more than 15 miles of trails on 1000 gorgeous acres. You might be able to peep the last of the leaves this weekend. Make a day of it and stop at one of our favorite spots for hard and sweet cider, Thompson Cider Mill. Then head over to Fable Farm to shop at the market and visit the goats to complete your fall staycation.
Halloween in The Rivertowns
Anyone who lives in a Rivertown thinks that THEIR Halloween is the best Halloween. Irvington for sure ranked at the top, with “Porch-ella,” where eight local bands played throughout the night (disclaimer, I live in Irv). But Tarrytown also had an amazing parade. And we are told that Headless Horseman was haunting people all around Sleepy Hollow.
